Awareness Talk on Organ Donation at Turbhe MIDC Police Station, Navi Mumbai

  • On 5th June 2018, MOHAN Foundation Mumbai was invited by Mr. Amar Desai, Senior Inspector, for an awareness talk on organ donation at Turbhe MIDC Police Station, Navi Mumbai.

    Mrs. Jigisha Yadav gave an introduction about MOHAN Foundation, its mission and objectives. Thereafter she explained the concept of organ donation, types of death, the organs and tissues that can be donated after cardiac death and after brain death, the concept of brain death, difference between brain death and coma. The myths and facts related to organ donation were discussed and she shared information about organ allocation and distribution.

    She also explained the legal aspects, the actual role of police when Brain death occurs in Medico Legal cases. Forms 8 and 10 pertaining to Transplantation of Human Organs Act were discussed and they were made familiar with the procedure. It was highlighted to the audience that time was of essence whenever such requests were to be received from the hospital, asking for their approval to proceed with retrieval.

    It was explained to them as to how organ donation is a race against time and the procedures for approvals must be acted upon as early as possible. Around 32 police personnel attended the session.  Some of them picked up forms to donate their organs.
