Awareness Talk on Organ Donation at Trust House for the staff members of VMRT, PVC Converters and Pal Care

  • On 17th June, 2016, MOHAN Foundation Mumbai was invited by  Mrs. Kim Verma  Modi to conduct its first awareness session on organ donation for the staff members of M/s. Verma Medicine Research Trust (VMRT),M/s.  PVC Converters India Pvt.Ltd. and M/s. Pal Care (The Jimmy S. Bilimoria Foundation)

     

    Mrs. Jaya Jairam explained the purpose, necessity, importance and complex issues in deceased organ donation, concept of brain death, cultural and religious barriers, THO Act and myths related to organ donation.

     

    There were about 30 staff and support staff who attended the programme. Jaya presented the demand and supply gap of organs in our country, which justifies the need to donate organs. The employees were informed as to who all can become organ donors, how and what all organs they can donate. They were shown a three minute video on importance of organ donation as a Gift of Life.

     

    She further focused on the low organ donation rate in our country  which is  less than even 1 person per million population. The talk further explained that due to lack of awareness and opt-in system followed by India, we have such low organ donation rate. Myths related to organ donation were also clarified.

     

    Donor cards were issued to the interested persons.
