  • On July 31, 2023, Mr. Gabriel from the MOHAN Foundation conducted an organ donation awareness talk at St. Thomas Boys High School, Aldona, Goa. The students were from classes nine and ten. Mr. Gabriel showed a short video on brain death and "Live Beyond Life," a short-animated presentation on organ donation.

Mr. Gabriel presented a PowerPoint on MOHAN Foundation and the significance of organ donation. He demonstrated to the students the significant disparity between organ demand and supply. He inquired of the students’ which organs and institutions in Goa performed transplants. He then shared with them the names of the transplant centres, the number of individuals on the kidney transplant waiting list, and the guiding principles for sharing organs with other transplant centres, as organs are a national resource and paired organs must be shared.

As a MOHAN Foundation helpline counsellor, he frequently receives calls from individuals wishing to sell their organs, he told the students. Then, he informs the callers about the Transplant Act, which makes selling or purchasing organs a felony punishable by up to ten years in prison and up to one crore rupees in fines.

Gabriel thanked the principal, students, and teacher for giving MOHAN Foundation the opportunity to conduct the session.

Close to 130 students attended the talk along with the teachers.
