The MSc Nursing Department of NIMHANS conducted an awareness talk for the public in the OPD at NIMHANS on 26th August 2025 at 10:00 am. Representing MOHAN Foundation were Mrs. Ranjini Shankar MS and Mr. Nagendra Kumar R.
The session began with Dr. Nadeem from the Neurosurgery Unit III, NIMHANS, who addressed the audience on brain death and the brain death declaration process. Following this, Mrs. Ranjini Shankar MS, Project Manager at MOHAN Foundation, spoke about the organ retrieval process in Karnataka and elaborated on the procedures involved in deceased and live organ donation, with special emphasis on eye and skin donation. She also highlighted the barriers to organ donation, addressing prevalent myths and misconceptions, while emphasizing the importance of public awareness in dispelling these misunderstandings.
Later, Dr. Kanmani (Additional Professor, Department of Psychiatric Social Work, NIMHANS) discussed the legal aspects of organ donation in Karnataka.
The session saw an enthusiastic participation of around 300 attendees.
