Awareness Talk on Organ Donation at S-VYASA Deemed to be University, Bengaluru

  • On 15th August 2025, MOHAN Foundation conducted an impactful awareness talk on organ donation for the students and staff of S-VYASA Deemed to be University, Bengaluru. The session was coordinated by Mrs. Ranjini Shankar MS in collaboration with Dr. Raghu Nath, Dean – AHS.

    MOHAN Foundation was represented by Mrs. Ranjini Shankar MS (Project Manager) and Mr. Nagendra Kumar R (Transplant Coordinator).

    Mrs. Ranjini opened the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation and sharing its mission and vision. She went on to deliver a comprehensive talk covering a wide range of topics, including:

    • The concept of organ and tissue donation
    • Types of death: circulatory death and brain death
    • Brain death declaration, including the Apnoea test and other clinical assessments
    • Procedures involved in deceased and live organ donation
    • Specific processes for eye, skin, and bone donation
    • Barriers to organ donation
    • Myths and facts surrounding organ donation
    • The concept and significance of the Green Corridor in organ transport
    • The role of Jeevasarthakathe in organ allocation and coordination in Karnataka
    • An overview of the Transplantation of Human Organs Act (THOA)
    • The importance of carrying a donor card and steps to pledge for organ donation

     

    The session was well-received by all participants. A total of 900 individuals attended the program, of which 600 pledged to become organ donors by signing up at the end of the session.
