  On April 30, 2023, in continuation of the awareness drive at the College of Nursing-Medical Directorate, Lamphelpat, Imphal, MOHAN Foundation conducted two more sessions on organ donation for the nursing students. The keynote speaker was Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer at the MOHAN Foundation, who was accompanied by Ms. Thoidingjam Udayini Khuman, Transplant Coordinator.

   

  The entire drive was co-ordinated & supported by Mrs. Ningthoujam Surbala Devi, Principal, College of Nursing, Medical Directorate, Lamphelpat, Imphal. College of Nursing is one of the oldest state- run nursing institutes of Manipur.

  Two sessions for the first and second-year students pursuing B.Sc. Nursing were conducted in two batches.

   

  Ms. Monica opened the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation, its aims and objectives. Then, she briefed about the scenario on organ donation and the ever-growing need for organ transplants due to the rise of organ failure.

   

  Then, she focused on the following points such as:

  • Law enacted for transplantation
  • India’s Organ Donation rate in per million population (pmp)
  • Brain death vs circulatory death
  • Facts and myths on organ donation
  • Stories of organ donors & recipient
  • Courses offered by MOHAN Foundation

   

  Later, Ms. Udayini briefed the process of pledging through the MOHAN Foundation website and the importance of discussion with the family members. Thereafter, FAQs on organ donation were distributed to the participants for better understanding about the topic.

   

  Close to 79 participants attended both the sessions. 14 participants pledged for organ donation.
