Awareness Session on Organ Donation in NSS Camp, St. Johns High School, Sector 26, Chandigarh

  • On 16th December 2025, SRDF – MOHAN Foundation was invited by NSS Program Officer Shruti Gupta in St. John’s High School Chandigarh Sector 26 to sensitize their NSS volunteers on Organ Donation.

    Mrs. Preeti Gupta initiated the session by introducing MF-SRDF and MOHAN Foundation alongwith its mission and vision. The goal of this session was to address the importance of organ donation as a gift of life.  

    A comprehensive scope on organ donation was covered through following articles:

    • The concept of organ and tissue donation and impact of the lifesaving were highlighted.
    • The status of Organ Donation in India and its requirement vs donation rates.
    • The statistics of India against other countries was compared and within the Indian state was discussed.  Besides that, opt out policy was touched upon for further clarity.
    • The light was shed on the terms live related – live unrelated.
    • The differences between natural deathbrain death, and a coma state were explained.
    • The challenge was to dispel the myths in regard to organ donation were taken care of by providing factual information to the volunteers.
    • Real life stories of an organ transplant were shared.
    • Importance of carrying a Donor card and steps to pledge for organ donation. All were encouraged to have a word with their families.

    An informative film on brain death was played. After that, the session became two way with questions pouring in. Their curiosity was satisfactorily addressed.

    A total of 25 NSS volunteers from class 12th and four teachers attended the session. All the students were motivated and convinced to support organ donation when they will turn 18. Both teachers and students appreciated the efforts put in by MF-SRDF – MOHAN Foundation. 

    MF-SRDF – MOHAN Foundation extended heartfelt gratitude to NSS Program Officer of the school for their assistance and providing the opportunity to conduct this meaningful session.
