Awareness Session on Organ Donation for Nurses at Artemis Hospitals, Gurugram

  • On August 21, 2019, MOHAN Foundation representatives conducted a session on organ donation for the nurses of Artemis Hospital. The session was organized by nursing education department for nurses as part of their induction training which is conducted on a regular basis once every month. Ms. Shafia Hameed coordinated the session and Dr. Pallavi Rekhi was the resource person for the session.

     

    Dr. Rekhi introduced MOHAN Foundation, its objectives and activities in the past years. She began the session by asking the participants a few questions on organ donation and if anyone among them had pledged their organs. She explained why European countries have higher organ donation rate in comparison to India which is at 0.80 per million population. Difference between circulatory death and brain death was explained. A short video clip on brain death was shown to clarify that brain death is not the same as coma. She motivated the nurses to talk about organ donation with their families, friends and to take initiatives in their respective departments especially for eye donation.

     

    Close to 90 nurses attended the session.
