On May 11, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat, conducted an awareness session on organ donation at the Surgery Out Patient Department (OPD), JNIMS, as part of its ongoing public education and outreach initiatives. The session was conducted by Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Programme Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Manipur and he was accompanied by Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi, Programme Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Manipur.
Mr. Paringanba commenced the session by engaging participants in an interactive discussion to assess their existing understanding and perceptions of organ donation. He subsequently delivered a comprehensive presentation on organ donation, clearly distinguishing between living and deceased donation and explaining the significance of each.
He further emphasized the immense value of organ donation by noting that a single donor has the potential to save up to eight lives. The session underscored the urgent need to strengthen public awareness and cultivate a collective sense of social responsibility towards organ donation.
The progress of organ donation in Manipur was also highlighted, with special reference to healthcare institutions in the state where successful transplant procedures have been conducted. The session concluded with an informative discussion on the legal framework governing organ donation, reiterating that the commercial trade of human organs is a punishable offence under the law. Particular emphasis was placed on upholding ethical standards and ensuring lawful practices in organ transplantation.
Participants were encouraged to pledge their support for organ donation and were provided with information regarding the toll-free helpline and the Manipur office contact number for any organ-donation-related queries. Informational leaflets were also distributed at the conclusion of the session.
Approximately 20 participants were reached through this awareness programme.
