Awareness Session on Organ Donation at the Urology OPD, AIIMS Rishikesh

  • On April 21, 2026, the Division of Organ Transplant at AIIMS Rishikesh, in collaboration with MOHAN Foundation, Uttarakhand, conducted an organ donation awareness session in the Urology OPD waiting area.

     

    The session was conducted by Mr. Arun Sharma, Program Executive, MF, Uttarakhand. The session was attended by patient attendants, residents, nursing staff, and support staff, including bearers and sweepers, from the Department of Urology.

     

    Mr. Arun introduced MOHAN Foundation, outlining its mission and objectives. He provided a detailed overview of organ donation and transplantation, covering key aspects such as eligibility criteria, organ donation during life and after death, brain death and its distinction from coma, eye and skin donation procedures, the Transplantation of Human Organs & Tissues Act, 1994, living kidney transplantation facilities at AIIMS Rishikesh, and common myths and facts related to organ donation.

     

    He emphasized the urgent need for organ donation in India and encouraged participants to actively discuss the subject with their families, friends, and colleagues to help foster a culture of awareness and acceptance.

     

    Participants appreciated the efforts of MOHAN Foundation and expressed willingness to continue conversations on organ donation within their communities.

     

    Approximately 80 individuals attended the session. Notably, two participants pledged to donate their organs on the spot.
