  • On July 11, 2023, SOTTO Haryana, along with MOHAN Foundation, conducted an awareness session on organ donation at KVM College of Nursing, Rohtak, for the students of B.Sc. Nursing courses.

The session was organized with the support of Ms. Jyoti Sharma, Principal, KVM College of Nursing, Rohtak. She introduced MOHAN Foundation as an NGO working for the cause of organ donation since 1997.

Ms. Renu Kumari, Project Leader of the MOHAN Foundation, conducted the session. She shared with the participants that MOHAN was an acronym, and its full form is "Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network". She then discussed in detail the organs that can be donated during life and after death, coma vs. brain death, myths and facts related to organ donation, the transplant waiting list, and the green corridor.

She discussed the THO Act, the law enacted for organ donation and transplantation, the definition of brain death, the establishment of a brain death committee and its members, organ donation consent, the organ sharing network, the functions of NOTTO, ROTTO, and SOTTO, and how we can support them.

Mr. Rajesh Bhar, Consultant for Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) at SOTTO, briefed the audience on the process of pledging and the significance of family discussions. FAQs on organ donation were distributed amongst the participants to enhance their understanding of the subject.

At the end of the session, Ms. Sharma requested MOHAN Foundation to conduct one more awareness program on organ donation for the students of General Midwifery (GNM).

The session was attended by approximately 150 students, and 63 signed the organ donation pledge form.
