On, 6th January 2019, MOHAN Foundation was invited by Mrs. Urvashi Ben Thakker, Secretary to conduct an Awareness Session on Organ Donation at Gujarati Lohana Mahila Mandal Samaj, Panvel, Navi Mumbai.
Mrs.Indumati Thakker, Social Worker started her session by stating the need for organ donation in India, she backed her claim with the past years statistics. She then introduced MOHAN Foundation and requested Mrs. Jigisha Yadav to continue the session.
Mrs. Jigisha Yadav introduced MOHAN Foundation by stating that, MOHAN does stand for anyone’s name but, it is an acronym 'Multi Organ Harvesting Aid Network'. Mrs. Jigisha Yadav then spoke about what organs a live donor can donate in case of an emergency to save the life of a family member or a loved one. Then she spoke about the different types of death and what all organs can be donated in each case. The concept of Brain death was introduced and the causes of brain death were explained, difference between coma and brain dead was also explained.
About 70-80 members attended the talk and the brochures containing information about organ donation were also distributed.
