Awareness Session along with Blood Donation Camp conducted at Mangalmurti Ganesh Utsav Mandal, Nagpur

  • On 19th September 2021, MOHAN Foundation in association with Transplants – Help The Poor Foundation conducted organ donation awareness programme and Blood Donation Camp with Feel Good Foundation Team at Mangalmurti Ganeshutshav Mandal, Nagpur. The programme which began around 2 pm lasted for more than one hour, and was attended by around 55 people.

    Ms. Prarthana Dwivedi, Transplant Coordinator of MOHAN Foundation explained about organ donation and why is it required in the country. Various organs that can be donated, types of donors, types of death, viability of organs after retrieval were topics discussed. She explained the difference between brain death and cardiac death, elaborated on the Transplantation of Human Organs Act and discussed the myths and misconceptions related to organ donation. She also briefed about skin donation, eye donation and Body donation.

    Some key points that were explained in the session are as follows:

    • Brain stem death and its causes
    • Types of organ donors
    • Organs and tissues that can be donated
    • Importance of the donor card, the helpline number and the website of MOHAN Foundation

    A few participants asked about the process to register to pledge to be an organ donor and the organ donation process in hospitals. MOHAN Foundation is thankful to Mr. Ravindra Sharma, President of Mangalmurti Ganeshotshav Mandal for giving us the opportunity.
