  On July 28, 2022, MOHAN Foundation, Imphal was invited to deliver a talk on organ donation by the Rotary Club of Polo City Imphal during their weekly meeting at Classic Grande Hotel, Imphal. The program was organised in coordination with Mr. Rajinikanta, Secretary, Rotary Club of Polo City, Imphal.

   

  Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer, MOHAN Foundation, Imphal was the speaker of the session. The session was attended by Shri Thangjam Arunkumar Singh, Hon’ble MLA Wangkhei Kendra, Imphal-Manipur, Mr. Anil Kumar Jain, President, Rotary Club, Polo City Imphal & Mr. Rajinikanta along with other members of the club.

   

  Mr. Rajinikanta kicked off the session by providing a brief overview of the MOHAN Foundation and its goals.  Ms. Monica then spoke extensively about the Foundation’s objectives to promote organ donation in the society.

  • Types of donation and who can be a donor.
  • Status of organ donation & transplant waiting list in India.
  • Facts and myths on organ donation.
  • Difference between circulatory death, brain death and coma.
  • Eye donation.
  • Laws enacted for transplantation.
  • Importance of the donor card.
  • How to pledge or sign up for organ donation on MOHAN Foundation's website.
  • The importance of family consent in the process of organ donation.

   

  The session was very interactive where participants enthusiastically contributed to the discussion and asked many queries, such as:  

  • Brain death vs circulatory death, what is the difference?
  • Process to follow if someone wants to pledge for organ donation.
  • Process to follow if someone had pledged to donate organs but died at home.
  • Viability of organs after retrieval.
  • Are donors screened for infectious diseases?
  • What is body donation and how it is different from organ donation?

   

  After the session, Ms. Thoidingjam Udayini Khuman, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, Imphal distributed pamphlets called “Gift A Life by MOHAN Foundation” to all the participants for better understanding of the concepts of organ donation. Ms. Monica extended her gratitude to the members of Rotary Club of Polo City for providing the opportunity to present the talk and to Mr. Rajinikanta for his support throughout the program. Lastly, Ms. Monica was appreciated by the Rotary Club of Polo City by presenting her with a memento.
