Awareness Programme on Organ Donation conducted for the Students of Leirik Institute of Nursing, Sangaiprou, Imphal

  • On September 22, 2022 MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness programme on organ donation for the nursing students at Leirik Institute of Nursing, Sangaiprou, Imphal. Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer, MOHAN Foundation was the speaker and Ms. Thoidingjam Udayini Khuman, Transplant Co-ordinator, MOHAN Foundation accompanied her.

     

    The session was conducted with the approval of Ms. Priya Devi, Principal, Leirik Institute of Nursing, along with the faculty & students of the institute.

     

    Ms. Monica & Ms. Udayini were welcomed by the students. Ms. Udayini introduced MOHAN Foundation, its objectives and visions. Ms. Monica continued the session by asking the students regarding their understanding of organ donation. Following which the basic concepts of organ donation and transplantation were explained with the help of a PowerPoint presentation.

     

    Points explained in detail:

    • Organ donation and its need in the society
    • Transplant waiting list in India.
    • Facts and myths on organ donation.
    • Cornea donation.
    • Difference between brain death and coma.
    • Laws enacted for transplantation.
    • Importance of the donor card.
    • The importance of family consent in the process of organ donation.

     

    The session was interactive where participants enthusiastically contributed to the discussion and raised queries. Thereafter, Ms. Udayini distributed FAQs on organ donation to all the participants for better understanding of the concepts of organ donation.

     

    Lastly, the principal extended his support in organising and participating in more such activities. The students were also keen in discussing the cause with their family and friends.

     

    Close to 50 participants attended the session.
