Awareness Programme on Organ Donation at Rotary Bhawan, Mantripukhri, Imphal

  • On August 12, 2022, Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer, MOHAN Foundation and Ms. Thoidingjam Udayini Khuman, Transplant Co-ordinator, MOHAN Foundation visited Rotary Bhawan, Mantripukhri during the weekly meeting of Rotary Club of Imphal.

     

    The session was conducted in the presence of Mr. Pramod Jaswal, President, Rotary Club of Imphal along with the members of Rotary Club of Imphal, Mantripukhri.

     

    Ms. Monica began the session by introducing MOHAN foundation, its objectives and visions. Following which the basic concepts of organ donation and transplantation were explained with the help of a PowerPoint presentation.

     

    Points explained in detail:

    • Organ donation and its need in the society
    • Transplant waiting list in India.
    • Facts and myths on organ donation.
    • Difference between brain death and coma.
    • Laws enacted for transplantation.
    • Importance of the donor card.
    • How to pledge or sign up for organ donation on MOHAN Foundation's website.
    • The importance of family consent in the process of organ donation.

     

    The session was interactive where participants enthusiastically contributed to the discussion and raised queries, such as:  

    • Process to follow if someone wants to pledge for organ donation.
    • The method of organ allocation given that Manipur can only perform kidney transplants.
    • What are the formalities to be followed if a person dies in a state other than the state where he had signed up for organ donation?

     

    After Q & A session, Ms. Udayini distributed FAQ’s on organ donation to all the participants for better understanding of the concepts of organ donation. At the end of the session, Ms. Monica was felicitated by Dr. S. Rajendra Singh, Urologist, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, also a member of Rotary Club of Imphal with a shawl, a memento & Rotary presentation kits as a token of appreciation.

     

    Ms. Monica & Ms. Udayini extended their gratitude to the members for providing the opportunity to present the talk. Lastly, the members extended their support for organizing & participating in such awareness activities in the future.

     

    Close to 22 participants attended the session.
