Awareness Programme for Nursing students at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital

  • On 19th December 2013, Ms. Sunitha A.T, Mr. Prakash and Mr. Jeyabal Transplant Coordinators of  MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness programme in the Neurology ICU and N6 ward of the RGGGH.  The 2nd and 3rd year nursing students from Madras Medical College and Government Head Quarters Hospital Kancheepuram attended the session.  Concept of organ donation and role of nurses in maintaining the Potential Brain Death Patient were explained to them.

     

    Ms. Sunitha, spoke on the concept and importance of organ donation during her talk.  She also covered the following topics:

    • Importance of organ donation
    • Myths on organ donation
    • Types of donations – live and deceased donation
    • Difference between Natural Death, Coma and Brain Death
    • Organs that can be donated in cardiac death and drain death
    • Eye donation
    • Preservation time of organs
    • Maintenance of brain dead patient
    • Importance of Donor card

     

    At the end of the session she also mentioned about the transplant coordinator training course conducted by MOHAN Foundation.

     

    Nearly 14 nursing students participated in the programme and all expressed their support by signing the donor form.
