Awareness Program on Role of Police in Organ donation at Tamil Nadu Police Academy

  • On 8th June, 2018 MOHAN FOUNDATION was invited to conduct an awareness talk in the refresher training program in Tamil Nadu Police Academy, Oonamanchery, Chennai from 3 PM to 3:30 PM for Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors from different districts of Tamil Nadu. Ms. Sunitha Velankanni (Transplant Co-ordinator at MOHAN Foundation deputed to Rajiv Gandhi Govt General Hospital) and Mr. T.S.  Siva Shankar (Helpline Executive at MOHAN Foundation) conducted the seminar.

    The talk started with issuing the survey sheet which had multiple questions regarding organ donation.  Mr. Siva Shankar spoke about organ donation, brain death, which parts can be donated, cause of brain death, when can they donate, after what period of time they can be transplanted and gave an explanation on green corridor.

    Ms. Sunitha explained the role of police in organ donation procedure. She spoke on the important role they have during the inquest. She also shared her personal experiences with the audience on how she could convince the family of donors.

    The session was attended by 5 Sub Inspectors and 8 Inspectors. During their earlier training, they had taken their donor cards. Information pamphlet and a special poster were distributed to the policemen.
