Awareness Program on Organ Donation for Nursing Students in Puducherry

  • MOHAN Foundation was invited by Vinayaga Mission College of Nursing, Puducherry to conduct an organ awareness program for the first year nursing students. It was a part of NSS activity and to ensure students know about organ donation. The program was on 4th February 2017 in the college campus.

    The session was attended by the first year B.Sc Nursing and first year GNM Nursing students. The sessions began with a video on organ donation, after the video, the session on Concepts of Organ Donation was conducted. The nursing students were very involved in the whole presentation, the interactive session made them answer questions regarding organ donation.

    The difference between the living donor and deceased donor, the emphasis on blood donation and also the significance function of liver was explained. The importance of donor card was discussed and toll free number on organ donation was explained to them and how it will help when they share with the other people. The session ended with the question and answer to clear the doubts on the organ donation.

    120 students attended the program

    Questions asked

    1. If a person is affected with poison, can he/she donate organs?
    2. If a person is 85 year old, can they donate their skin?
