On September 15, 2025, MOHAN Foundation organized an awareness program on organ donation at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital Road, Kunjaban, Agartala, Tripura (West). The session was conducted for the students and teachers of the college.
Mr. Vincent Debbarma (Project Lead, Tripura) and Ms. Nipa Modak (Program Executive, Tripura) represented MOHAN Foundation, while Dr. Manirul Islam represented the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO), Tripura.
The program began with a welcome address by Ms. Manidipa Ghosh Chakraborty, Principal of DIET College, who emphasized the importance of conducting awareness programs on sensitive and vital topics such as organ donation. Following this, Dr. Manirul Islam (Nodal Officer, SOTTO) spoke about the urgent need for organ donation and its impact on saving lives.
Subsequently, the session was taken forward by Ms. Nipa Modak, who explained the concept and significance of organ donation, different types of donors, and the organs and tissues that can be donated. She also clarified the difference between brain death and coma, highlighted the importance of corneal donation, and outlined key provisions of the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act, 1994. Informational leaflets on organ donation were distributed among the participants.
The session concluded with active participation and engagement from the attendees. In total, 130 participants took part in the program.
