Angles of Change program at Madras Medical Mission College of Nursing, Chennai

  • On July 03, 2023 MMM College of Nursing, Chennai invited MOHAN Foundation to conduct a volunteering training workshop. It was attended by 45 nursing students of 4th year BSC Nursing. 

    The ANGELS OF CHANGE Workshop started at 10 am and Principal Dr. Rosalin Rachel welcome the students, introduced Dr. Hemal and Mr. Ganesh to the students as a resource person for conducting the workshop.

    Dr Hemal started session 1 by introducing MOHAN Foundation, what is expected from the workshop. The students conducted a quiz by asking the facilitators questions on transplantation, outcomes, processes and counseling. Dr. Hemal and Mr. Ganesh answered the queries.

    Session 2 was handled by Ms. Arshiya and Mr. Ganesh. They both spoke on the different forms of communication and how to approach the community on organ donation. Giving examples there depicted how to encourage the community to support organ donation.  

    Session 3 was an activity based learning where the students were asked to read a donor story and write a thank you letter as if they were the recipient. This exercise is to delve empathy towards the donor family. 

    Session 4 was a group activity. The students were divided into groups and were given objectives as surveys, creating posters, planning events, public talk and campaigns on social media. After 30 minutes of discussion they were required to explain their product for their activity. 

    Session 5 Dr. Hemal conducted an activity to gauge the students reactions to loss. Dr. Hemal carried out the activity in a lively manner, helping them understand their mental strength and empathize with patients; emotional stability during their loss.

    Following this, there was an interaction with Transplant Coordinator Mrs. Kavitha Aneesh, who led the session. She shared two cases that she had coordinated, aiming to help the group understand her counseling approach and the difficulties she encountered. Later, feedback was provided by Sreelakshmi, one of the AOC candidates.

    The workshop ended with a group photo. We wholeheartedly thank Dr. Rosalin Rachel for giving this opportunity and we thank the Management of Madras Medical Mission for providing the facility.
