An Awareness session on Organ Donation conducted at Novartis Pharmaceutical, Telangana

  • On 23rd August,2022. An awareness on Organ Donation was conducted in the premises of Novartis Pharmaceutical for the staff of the company. The session was organised by Dr. Varshini Jayaraman who was a student of Dr. Sunil Shroff for the past 4.5 years and hence wanted to spread the message of Organ donation to the masses. The session also included a speech on Organ Donation which was presented by Mr. Mohan Nisthala (Dist Chair Rotary Club) who gave a detailed insight on a donor’s point of view in the process of Organ Donation. Dr. Bhanu Chandra and Ms. Srividya Subramanian were the key resource.

    The presentation was conducted in a combination of hybrid/In- person mode as most of the staff belonged to various other states and hence an hybrid mode facilitated more participants from across the country. Dr.  Chandra introduced the session by giving a brief on MOHAN Foundation and kept the audience engaged throughout the session.

    The following topics were discussed in detail by Dr. Chandra and Ms. Srividya :

    • Importance and need of Organ Donation
    • Importance of Cadaveric Body Donations
    • Brain death and clinical aspects of Brain Death
    • Green Corridor
    • Future of Organ Donation in country.

    Ms. Srividya.S spoke about the various initiatives by MOHAN Foundation like “life before ashes”  and way forward for Organ Donation in the state of Telangana. The session was very interactive where participants enthusiastically contributed the discussion and several questions were posed by the audience namely :

    • Procedure for Voluntary body donation
    • Ways to enhance awareness sessions on Organ Donation
    • Provisions for underprivileged kidney failure patients

    Close to 630 participants were present in the session on MS Teams and approximately 500 claim to have downloaded their donor cards online. After the presentation, a stall on Organ Donation was set up by Ms. Srividya.S were several people pledge to donate organs.
