Ambassador Dr. Eshwar delivers an Awareness Talk on Organ Donation

  • On 29th October 2021, Dr. Eshwar Vasudevan, an organ donation ambassador of MOHAN Foundation from Tiruppur delivered a virtual awareness talk for a few doctor colleagues, his classmates from Coimbatore Medica College and other friends. Ms. Ishwarya Thyagarajan, Research Associate of MOHAN Foundation was also present during the talk. 

    Ms. Ishwarya introduced MOHAN Foundation, its Founder Dr. Sunil Shroff, vision, mission and activities of the organisation. She then proceeded to talk about the organ donation ambassador training and Dr. Eshwar’s collaboration with the Foundation. 

    Dr. Eshwar’s talk primarily focused on brain death, its causes, declaration process involving the 4 doctors and the donation process that will follow brain death. He threw light on the organ shortage faced by the country and common myths that prevent people from donating the organs of their loved ones. Tissue donation, whole body donation and transplant law were also among the topics covered. 

    Around 15 people were present during the talk. Ms. Ishwarya requested the doctors in the group to place banners, donor cards and information brochures in their clinics to help their patients understand the importance of organ donation. Dr. Eshwar shared with the audience what drove him to take up the cause and explained why it is important for every individual to campaign for it. 

    Dr. Sathya Subramani from the audience shared that the transplant fraternity should explore techniques like pancreatic islets isolation which may help address organ failure issues. She also greatly appreciated Dr. Eshwar’s commitment. Dr. Madhan, a senior of Dr. Eshwar’s from Coimbatore mentioned that he was proud of what his colleague has been doing and wished him all success. Dr. Senthil, the Tirupur IMA Secretary spoke highly of Dr. Eshwar’s devotion to many social causes and promised his support for all such initiatives. Dr. Eshwar and Ms. Ishwarya thanked all the participants and promised to organise more such sessions involving experts from the transplantation field.
