  • Rev. Fr. Davis Chiramel who is the Founder and General Secretary of Accident Care Transport Services (ACTS), President of Janananma and Founder ‘Kidney Federation of India’ visited MOHAN Foundation on 11th of March 2013.  It was a learning experience for the Foundation staff to directly interact with the humanitarian priest.

He is a Catholic priest by profession and his priesthood is a secular service to channel his vision and mission of serving the poor in society irrespective of caste and creed. He donated a kidney to an underprivileged Hindu electrician. He is a living proof for his preaching. He has dedicated his life to educate and remove the unfounded fear of kidney donation and to eliminate the kidney trade. He shared his views and experience with our staff.  He mentioned that organ donation is the noblest donation in the world. He emphasised on the cross donation and his experience in forming a chain of donors in true altruistic spirit.  He said that he wants to put moral pressure on the State Government by conducting padyatras throughout Kerala and collecting signatures from 10 lakh registered organ donors.   It was an inspiration for the Chennai team to interact with him.

MOHAN Foundation team also got an opportunity to attend “1st Smt. Lakshmi Venkatraman Endowment Oration”. The programme was organized by TANKER Foundation at Madras Medical Mission on 11th March 2013. Rev. Fr. Davis Chiramel was the chief guest of the function. He gave a motivating speech to the audience and he addressed them as dear brothers and sisters. He shared his own experience and encouraged the crowd to support organ donation. He shared the story of a mother who donated a portion of her liver to her daughter and a kidney to another daughter. To help this woman, Father Chiramel sold his own car and gave the money towards the transplant expenses. He requested everyone in the crowd to not to waste their organs but to donate it to the people who are waiting for a second chance.  It was a great pleasure to be a part of this programme.  Rev. Fr. Davis Chiramel got a standing ovation for his inspiring speech.
