  • On August 11, 2023, Ms. Jaya Jairam of MOHAN Foundation was invited by HPCL to conduct a virtual awareness talk on organ donation, for its employees.

Around 40 employees attended the session and participated actively. Ms. Jaya spoke about the concepts of organ donation, what is brain death, importance of organ donation, who can donate and what all can be donated. She went on to discuss certain myths and fear in the minds of public about organ donation. She then informed the participants about how they can support the cause themselves.

Lastly, she shared her own story of how a kidney donated by her mother saved her life, making her rethink her career in corporate finance and ultimately join the NGO MOHAN Foundation for furthering the cause of organ donation. The audience shared that they felt quite inspired and one of them offered to volunteer for the cause.

Some of the questions asked were as follows -

    1. Are the organs available free of cost in orivate hospitals?

    2. Can someone with diabetes donate their organs?

    3. Will MOHAN Foundation come home and collect the organs?

    4. If I have already signed up for a Donor Card with another NGO, do I have to register again with MOHAN Foundation?

    5. I keep getting transferred on job, to different cities - how does the process work in such situations?

MOHAN Foundation is thankful to Ms. Sreedevi Kaul and HPCL for driving the awareness campaign within the organisation.
