MOHAN Foundation was invited for an awareness program on organ donation by Object Frontier Software Private Limited on 28th April 2017. The session was held in their office complex in Acendas IT Park, Taramani, Chennai. Mr. T. S. Siva Shankar and Dr. Hemal Kanvinde represented MOHAN Foundation.
First green ribbons were pinned on the shirts of the staff to support organ donation. Mr. Mohan Krishnan welcomed the staff of MOHAN Foundation and recalled old association with us. He gave a small speech that he has decided to pledge his organs and has shared the decision with his family.
Then a video was played on Tamil Nadu leading the way in organ donation to make the participants feel proud of their state and about the way it has developed. Mr. T.S. Siva Shankar started the awareness with the history of MOHAN Foundation and gave a brief on what, why, who and when of organ donation.
The important part discussed was about Brain Death. He played the video on Brain death by Dr. Sandeep Vaishya, Neurosurgeon from FORTIS Memorial Research Institute. This made the concept of brain death more clear to the participants.
Then Mr. Siva Shankar explained the age criteria of each organ, and the session went for 45 minutes. Post the session the Q & A session started. The question asked were
Dr. Hemal Kanvinde explained about the process of Organ donation in hospital so that participants understood that there will not be any illegal activities in the hospital and the organs will be shared to the needy people.
At the end a recipient video was played to make the participants understand the benefits of organ donation.
It was an interactive session and there were around close to 100 participants who attended the program and 21 people took their donor cards.
