Donor Memorial

  • Mr. Ravindra Kumar  Mehrotra- 81 Years

At approximately 2020 hours on October 12, 2025, Mr. Sanchit Arora, Project Leader, MOHAN Foundation, stationed at AIIMS Rishikesh, received a call from Dr. Puneet Arora, Head of the Department of Nephrology, Max Hospital, Dehradun, regarding a potential eye donation. Dr. Arora informed him about Mr. Ravindra Kumar Mehrotra, a patient on his deathbed, whose family had expressed willingness to donate his corneas.

Mr. Sanchit explained the complete eye donation procedure to the family and promptly communicated the information to the Eye Bank at Swami Rama Himalayan Hospital (SRHH), Jolly Grant, Dehradun, requesting them to remain on standby for retrieval.

At around 0400 hours on October 13, 2025, Dr. Meenal Chauhan, Head of the Department of Neurosurgery, Max Hospital, Dehradun, informed that Mr. Mehrotra had passed away due to a severe brain haemorrhage.

Since Max Hospital did not have a retrieval team, Mr. Sanchit guided the family through the donation process and also sensitively offered them the option of whole-body donation along with eye donation. The family, however, chose to proceed solely with corneal donation.

The SRHH Eye Bank team reached Max Hospital promptly. Ms. Deepa, wife of the late Mr. Mehrotra, provided written consent, and corneal retrieval was successfully conducted at 0730 hours on the same day.

Through his generous act, Mr. Ravindra Kumar Mehrotra, aged 81 years, bestowed the gift of sight to two individuals.

MOHAN Foundation extends heartfelt gratitude to the family of Mr. Mehrotra for their noble gesture and to the SRHH Eye Bank team for their timely coordination and invaluable support in making this donation possible.
