At approximately 1730 hours on January 08, 2026, Mr. Sanchit Arora, Project Leader, MOHAN Foundation, stationed at AIIMS Rishikesh, received a call regarding a potential eye donation. The call was made by Mr. Gopal Narang, Charter President, Lions Club Rishikesh Devbhoomi, and a neighbor of the deceased, informing about the unfortunate demise of Mr. Jaswant Singh Ratan, aged 87 years, who had passed away due to cardiac arrest around hours at his home, Vankhandi, Rishikesh. The family had expressed their willingness to donate his corneas.
Mr. Sanchit requested Mr. Narang to share the contact details of a close family member and subsequently spoke with Mr. Kulvinder Singh Kittu, son-in-law of the deceased. He explained the complete eye donation process to him. Mr. Kulvinder informed that the family wished to conduct the eye donation.
Following this, Mr. Sanchit immediately informed the Eye Bank & Corneal Grafting Centre, Swami Rama Himalayan Hospital, Dehradun, and the corneal retrieval was successfully carried out at 1950 hours on January 08, 2026.
Through his generous act, Mr. Jaswant Singh Ratan, aged 87 years, bestowed the gift of sight upon two individuals.
