At approximately 1530 hours on October 23, 2025, Mr. Sanchit Arora, Project Leader, MOHAN Foundation, stationed at AIIMS Rishikesh, received a call regarding a potential eye donation. The call was made by Mr. Gopal Narang, Charter President, Lions Club Rishikesh Devbhoomi, and a neighbour of the deceased, informing about the unfortunate demise of Mr. Keemti Lal Sondhi, aged 74 years, who had passed away due to cardiac arrest around 1500 hours at the Government Hospital, Ambala, Haryana. The family had expressed their willingness to donate his corneas.
Mr. Sanchit requested Mr. Narang to share the contact details of a close family member and subsequently spoke with Mr. Neeraj Sondhi, son of the deceased. He explained the complete eye donation process to him. Mr. Neeraj informed that the family wished to conduct the eye donation in Rishikesh, after bringing Mr. Keemti Lal Sondhi's body home.
During the conversation, Mr. Neeraj mentioned that Mr. Sondhi had been traveling to Amritsar when he experienced chest pain at Ambala. He was taken to the local government hospital, where he was declared dead. He also shared that his father had undergone a bypass surgery a few years ago.
Following this, Mr. Sanchit conveyed the information to the Eye Bank at AIIMS Rishikesh and requested the team to remain on standby.
At around 2330 hours, Mr. Narang informed them that the family had returned home and was ready to proceed with the eye donation. Mr. Sanchit immediately informed the Rishikesh Eye Bank team, and the corneal retrieval was successfully carried out at 0020 hours on October 24, 2025.
