The patient, Mr. Sehwaj Ahmed (26 years), was found unconscious on the Haridwarâ€Rishikesh highway and was admitted to AIIMS Rishikesh for treatment. Despite all efforts, he succumbed to severe hypothermia on February 3, 2026 at around 2100 hours.

During discussions with Mr. Sartaj Ahmed, brother of the deceased, Mr. Arun Sharma and Mr. Mahipal Chouhan provided the initial counselling for eye donation. It was also shared that Mr. Sehwaj Ahmed had been involved in legal matters in Delhi and was reportedly absconding. Initially, the family was hesitant and required more time to consider the decision regarding corneal donation. However, following further counselling and motivation provided by Mr. Iftar, brother-in-law of the deceased, the family reconsidered and agreed to proceed with the donation.

Subsequently, after completion of police verification, Mr. Pawan, Eye Bank Technician, Rishikesh Eye Bank, successfully retrieved both corneas at 1200 hours on 4 February 2026. The AIIMS Rishikesh Eye Bank team expressed gratitude to the family by presenting them with a certificate, acknowledging their selfless decision to bestow the precious gift of sight.
