Late Mr. Suman Shah was a man of quiet strength, boundless generosity, and unwavering determination. Born and raised in Gujarat, he moved to Mumbai at the tender age of 23, carrying with him little more than a heart full of dreams and the courage to chase them. In the bustling chaos of the finance capital, Mr. Shah quickly found his footing. He was offered a coveted position that most would have clung to - but not him.
With rare conviction and a clear vision of what he wanted to build, he took a leap of faith and left his job to start his own business. Those early days were not easy. But armed with hard work, honesty, and a relentless spirit, Mr. Shah nurtured his dream into reality. Over the years, his entrepreneurial journey grew to include multiple factories, a testament to his perseverance and integrity.
Success, however, never changed the core of who he was. Mr. Shah remained deeply rooted in humility. He had an immensely giving nature - whether it was helping someone in need, or supporting a charitable cause, he did so quietly. He had also passed on these values to his children, raising them to live with kindness and compassion.
On the night of May 27, 2025, Mr. Shah suffered a massive heart attack and left this world, leaving behind a devastated family and a void that can never be filled. He was 78 years of age. In the midst of grief, a close friend, Mr Manan Doshi, gently brought up something that only those who knew Mr. Shah well would understand - the idea of eye donation.
Knowing his father's deeply generous spirit, sons Paras and Simit consulted their mother, Smt. Kiran Shah and together they made a decision that reflected Mr. Shah's essence. They agreed to go ahead with the donation, certain that Mr. Shah would have wanted nothing more than to give - even in death.
At around 11:30 PM, Manan called MOHAN Foundation's toll-free helpline. The response was immediate, and the Foundation's counselors initiated the eye donation process. Moved by the family's openness and Mr. Shah's life of giving, the counselors gently asked if they would also consider donating skin, which could help save the lives of burn victims.
The family huddled together and once again, the answer was immediate and resolute - yes. In their darkest hour, the Shah family lit a lamp of hope for others.
Thanks to their selfless decision, Mr. Shah's eyes were donated through EBCRC (Eye Bank Coordination and Research Centre), and skin was retrieved by the Skin Bank at Masina Hospital's Burns Center. Multiple lives will now be touched, healed, and transformed - all because one family chose to give.
MOHAN Foundation salutes the Shah family and honors the legacy of Late Mr. Suman Shah - a man who lived to give, and even in his passing, gave the gift of sight and healing to strangers. His story will forever be remembered not just as one of entrepreneurial success, but of profound humanity.
May his soul rest in peace, and may his light continue to shine in all those who now see and live more fully because of him.
