On the evening of May 9, 2025, Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi, Program Manager at MOHAN Foundation's NCR office, received a call at 4:15 PM from Pallavi Kumar, Executive Director, MOHAN Foundation, NCR informing her of the passing of her 89-year-old mother-in-law, Ms. Sunita Ashok, at home in Gurugram. The family expressed a wish to donate both her body and skin.
Dr. Muneet immediately reached out to Mr. Sudhir from Dadhichi Deh Daan Samiti to coordinate the body donation and to Mr. Vincent from Safdarjung Hospital's Skin Bank for the skin retrieval. Mr. Sudhir shared the necessary documentation, which Dr. Muneet promptly forwarded to Ms. Ashok's son, Mr. Sundeep Kumar, for completion.
Once the paperwork was in place, Mr. Sudhir arranged for his team to visit the residence for the body donation process. Simultaneously, the skin retrieval team from Safdarjung also left for the residence.
Skin retrieval procedure was successfully completed at home by 9:00 PM. Ms Ashok's body was then taken to the ESIC Hospital and Medical College, Faridabad. The family members accompanied the ambulance and completed the final documentation formalities.
Ms Sunita Ashok was a big supporter of the work of MOHAN Foundation and had been a regular financial donor for the activities of the Foundation. True to her generous spirit, even in death she continued to give - her skin and body have been donated for healing lives and for medical education. It was a fitting final act from a woman who lived her life giving.
