Sensitisation Programme at RGGGH, Chennai

  • A sensitization programme was organized at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Chennai on 22nd July, 2013. It was organized for the nurses from the male surgical ward and the disaster ward. Mr. Ananth R, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, Chennai conducted the session. The main topics that were covered in the session were: what is organ donation, who can be a donor, what is brain death, difference between brain death and coma, difference between brain death and cardiac death, age criterion for the donor and for the recipient, time frame for transplantation of various organs, the role of transplant coordinators in the whole process and about the Tamil Nadu organ sharing registry. There was active participation from all the nurses. Some of the queries that were raised are: how to register for eye donation, how to register for kidney transplantation and in case of a cardiac death who should they inform for eye donation to take place. There were a total of 27 participants and all of them pledged their organs by signing the donor card.
