Recreation club at Thottur celebrates its 42nd anniversary with a talk on Organ Donation

  • Mrithasanjeevani, Kerala Network for Organ Sharing was invited by Recreation Club, Thottur, Ernakulam,  Kerala to give an awareness talk on organ donation and to receive the “willing to Donate form”. The programme was held at Public Health Centre (PHC) courtyard, Thottur on 15th February 2014. This programme was organized by Recreation club in association with PHC Thottur  as part of 42nd anniversary of recreation club. On this occasion, the volunteers collected Organ Donation Form to encourage and sensitize the public on organ donation. The program started with welcome speech delivered by Mr. A K Raveendran, Secretary Recreation club.

     

    The event was inaugurated by Mr. Anoop Jacob, Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Govt of  Kerala. He delivered an effective speech on organ donation and he showed the proof that he has already registered for eye donation. Around 300 members participated in the programme.  Mr. Aneesh P V, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation deputed to Mrithasanjeevani,  explained concept of deceased donor organ transplantation.

     

    The main topics discussed  during  the talk were:

    1. Transplantation of Human Organ Act 1994

    2. Types of donations 

    3. Cardiac death and brain death

    4. Brain death certification  

    5. Organs that can be donated after brain death and cardiac death 

    6. Age criteria of the donor 

    7. KNOS website

    8. Importance of donor card

    9. Toll free Organ Donation help line number was given to the participants

    10. Religious myths on Organ Donation.

     

    Some of the queries were raised from the participants  were about whole body donation and registration process as a  organ failure patient. The queries were answered and all the people showed their support for the noble cause by signing the donor card.

     

    After the talk, Mr. Jayakumar KR, Edakkattuvayal, Grama panchayath President, Ms. Latha Rajendran, Edakkattuvayal Grama Panchayath ward member, Mr. Jayan K A, Health Inspector in-charge, PHC Thottur addressed the gathering. The program ended with the vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Arunkumar N R, Club Treasurer.
