On September 5th, 2014 an awareness session on organ donation was held on the occasion of Teachers day at Rufaida College of Nursing, Jamia Hamdard University by Sonam Choedon.
Rufaida College of Nursing (RCN), New Delhi was established in 1994. The institute is affiliated to Jamia Hamdard University and is recognized by the India Nursing Council (INC). Prior to the formation of the Faculty of Nursing it was part of Majeedia Hospital .The purpose of establishing the school was to contribute towards overcoming shortage of nurses in the country to some extent. The aim of the school is to encourage girls from Muslim minority community and weaker sections of the society to take up this noble profession.
Dr Meenu Jugani, Principal, Rufaida College of Nursing showed keen interest in having the session on Teachers Day as she felt that this was an apt cause to be showcased on such a day. The Chief Guest of the event was Dr. Sirdous A.Wani, Registrar, Jamia Hamdard University.
The session was attended by 250 students pursuing B. Sc and M. Sc Nursing. Sonam explained the concepts of organ donation and transplantation and also showed a film on brain death for better understanding of all those present.
Dr Muneet addressed the participants about the importance of the role nurses play in both identification and maintenance of brain dead patients and how nature of profession they could influence the decision of the family members. Information regarding Transplant Coordinator as a career option for nurses was also shared with the participants.
At the end of the session 60 donor cards were picked up.
