On June 11, 2025, a group of 23 Master of Social Work (MSW) students from ICFAI University, Tura, Meghalaya, visited the MOHAN Foundation (MF) Delhi-NCR office as part of their organizational exposure visit. The visit was referred by Dr. Nishtha Mishra, who leads research activities at MOHAN Foundation, and was coordinated with Mr. Witna William Ch Marak, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work, ICFAI University.
The purpose of the visit was to deepen the students’ understanding of MOHAN Foundation’s organizational structure, programs, and field-level interventions. It aimed to enhance their academic learning by providing them with practical insights into how social work theories are applied in real-world settings.
Ms. Pallavi Kumar, Executive Director, MF NCR, welcomed the students and introduced the organization and its mission. She highlighted MOHAN Foundation’s collaboration with the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCBVI) and the LV Prasad Eye Bank in establishing the Manipur Eye Bank, which now actively facilitates corneal transplants in the state. She also spoke about the Foundation’s recent expansion into Tripura.
This was followed by an icebreaker activity led by Ms. Simran Anand to foster a comfortable and interactive environment. She then delivered an informative presentation covering various aspects of organ donation in India. Key topics included the current status of organ donation in the country, distinctions between living and deceased donation, organs and tissues that can be donated, brain death and its declaration, the process of corneal donation and preservation, a brief overview of the Transplantation of Human Organs Act (THOA), 1994, and MOHAN Foundation’s role in promoting organ donation. She also addressed common myths and misconceptions surrounding organ donation.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks by one of the visiting students. Mr. Witna William Ch Marak also expressed his gratitude to MOHAN Foundation for the opportunity and warm hospitality.
