Organ donation awareness at Tamil Nadu Milk Dealers Welfare Association, T. Nagar

  • MOHAN Foundation was given an opportunity to create awareness on Organ Donation at the office of  the Tamil Nadu Milk Dealers Welfare Association , T. Nagar on March 10, 2024.  Mr. Ponnuswamy (President of  the Association) helped to set up an information desk on organ donation along with a blood donation camp at 9:00 AM. 

    Ms. Varsha (Intern, Stella Maris college for Women) manned the desk to spread the information on organ donation. Around 80 members paused to pick up information brochures, 15 pledged for organ donation

    Around 7 pm, Ms. Arshiya Fathima from MOHAN Foundation was invited on the stage to talk on Organ Donation. She started the session with  the Concepts of Organ Donation. She gave information on what and when donation can happen, brain death, voluntary body donation, skin donation and about helpline 1800 103 7100.  She also explained misconceptions in society about organ donation and how to pledge and get a donor card. There was a good interactive discussion after the talk. 

    The question asked were: 

    • What if the donor card is lost?
    • After death, how does the hospital get to know that we pledged our organs?
    • If the family is not interested to donate, can donation of organs still happen?
    • How to register for kidney transplantation?

    She was felicitated by Mr. Ponnuswamy, President of Tamil Nadu Milk Dealers Employees Welfare Association
