Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Session at T3 Korattur Police Station, Chennai

  • On June 5, 2026, MOHAN Foundation conducted an Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness session for police personnel at T3 Korattur Police Station, Chennai. A total of 19 police personnel attended the session.

    Mrs. Arshiya, Senior Project Executive, spoke on organ donation, highlighting the importance of deceased organ donation and addressing issues related to organ trafficking and scams involving the illegal sale of organs. She explained the various types of organ and tissue donation, including living and deceased donation, and provided information on brain death and its significance in deceased organ donation. She also spoke about skin donation and its role in helping burn victims. Emphasizing the link between road accidents and organ donation, she discussed the crucial role of police personnel in promoting road safety awareness and preventing accidents. She further highlighted how timely identification and referral of brain-dead patients can help save multiple lives through organ donation. The session also covered the legal framework governing organ transplantation in India, encouraging participants to rely on authorized transplant centres and government-regulated procedures.

     Ms. Kanishka, Project Executive, explained on cornea donation, explaining the process of cornea donation, eligibility criteria, precautions to be taken after death to facilitate eye retrieval, and the impact of cornea donation in restoring sight to individuals with corneal blindness. She also informed the participants about the MOHAN Foundation's 24×7 toll-free helpline, 1800 103 7100, and explained how it can be used to obtain information and assistance regarding organ and tissue donation.

    The session was interactive, with participants raising several questions, including:

    • Whether corneas can be retrieved from donors residing in remote villages.
    • Whether the health of a living liver donor would be affected after donation.
    • Whether families would be forced to donate organs if an individual had registered as an organ donor.

    MOHAN Foundation extended its sincere gratitude to Mr. Hari Babu, Inspector, for his valuable support and cooperation in organizing the awareness session successfully. 4 policemen showed an interest in pledging after discussion with their families.
