  • On May 19, 2026, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on organ and tissue donation at Akshaya Trust – Mudichur Branch, Chennai. Around 51 senior citizen residents actively participated in the programme.

The session began with Ms. Kanishka – Project Executive talk on cornea donation, which covered topics such as the importance of eye donation, eligibility criteria, myths and facts, the cornea retrieval process, and how donated corneas help restore vision to individuals suffering from corneal blindness.

This was followed by a detailed session by Mrs. Arshiya – Senior Project Executive on organ donation, where participants were educated about brain death, circulatory death, organs that can be donated, the transplant process, and the significance of pledging for donation.

The session was highly interactive, with residents actively participating and raising several questions regarding donation eligibility for individuals with diabetes, the skin retrieval procedure, the usage of donated skin for burn patients, and can donated organs be stored. These queries were addressed in detail, helping participants gain a clearer understanding of the concepts discussed.

One of the residents also shared his personal experience of donating a kidney to his friend nearly 30 years ago and expressed his willingness to continue helping others through donation even after his lifetime.

By the end of the programme, it was observed that many of the residents had already registered for eye donation. A few participants also showed interest in whole body donation and mentioned that they would discuss it further with their family members before making a decision. Informational brochures were distributed, and the importance of communicating one’s donation wishes with family members was emphasized.

MOHAN Foundation sincerely thanks Ms. Bhuvana, Manager of Akshaya Trust Senior Citizen Home, for providing this valuable opportunity and for the wholehearted support extended towards the successful conduct of the programme.
