Organ Donation talk for YRCS members at Jayagovind Harigopal Agarwal Agarsen College

  • As part of the public education initiatives for Organ Donor week (6th to 11th August 2012), Ms. Jessi, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation delivered a talk on Organ Donation to the Youth Red Cross Society (YRCS) students of Jayagovind  Harigopal  Agarwal Agarsen College,  Madhavaram, Chennai on 8th August 2012.

     

    Ms. Jessi explained the concepts of organ donation and brain death, myths and facts. She also spoke about the organs that could be donated by a living person and organs that could be donated after brain death. Students actively participated in the interaction that followed raising a lot of questions like:

     

    • How is organ allocation done in Tamil Nadu?
    • What is the situation in North India for a person seeking a transplant?
    • What is the difference between brain death and coma?
    • Can a brain dead person have a brain transplant?

     

    Nearly 200 students along with the faculty attended the talk and pledged to donate their organs by signing a ‘Donor card’. Many students picked up Donor cards for their family and relatives too. The efforts of Prof. Gomathy and Prof. Srividya in organising this talk are to be commended. Mr. Manoj, student coordinator gave the vote of thanks expressing their appreciation for MOHAN Foundation’s work. Both faculty and students promised that they would participate in all the activities of the Foundation.
