Organ Donation Sensitization Programme for the Department of Psychiatry, RIMS, Imphal

  • On December 18, 2025, MOHAN Foundation, in collaboration with the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, conducted an organ donation sensitization programme at the Department of Psychiatry. The session was facilitated by Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Project Coordinator (Northeast) and Project Lead (Manipur), MOHAN Foundation, along with Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation.

     

    The programme was coordinated with Ms. Chongtham Pritam Devi, Medical Social Worker (Assisting Transplant), RIMS. The session was attended by Dr. S. Gojendra Singh, Head of the Department; Dr. Mona Nongmeikapam, Assistant Professor; Ms. N. Roma Devi, Psychiatric Social Worker; as well as senior residents and postgraduate students from the Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Gojendra welcomed the MOHAN Foundation team and formally introduced the participants.

     

    Ms. Monica delivered a comprehensive presentation on organ donation, beginning with an overview of MOHAN Foundation’s vision and mission. She explained the concept of organ donation, the organs that can be donated, the prevailing demand–supply gap, and the legal and ethical framework governing organ donation in India. She also shared stories of hope and highlighted deceased organ donation cases from Manipur.

     

    The session further covered information on the organ donor registry and detailed the processes involved in both living and deceased organ donation. Ms. Chongtham Pritam Devi contributed a sociological perspective, emphasizing that organ donation extends beyond a medical procedure and involves significant psychological and social dimensions.

     

    The programme concluded with an interactive discussion, during which queries related to the organ donor registry, medico-legal cases, and organ donation in relation to life insurance policies were addressed. Informational pamphlets on organ donation were distributed to the participants.
