On June 14, 2026, coinciding with World Blood Donor Day, Mr Gabriel Pereira, Organ Donation Ambassador from the MOHAN Foundation, was invited to set up an Organ Donation Information Desk at the Goenche Rakhandar Recognition Awards 2026, organised by AMI GOENCHE RAKHANDAR.
The event was held at BIG Bee Banquet Hall from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and recognised individuals and groups for their contributions in diverse fields, including environmental conservation, fishermen's rights, community movements, sustainable development, courage, and advocacy for the people's voice in Goa.
A blood donation camp, conducted in association with the Goa Medical Blood Bank, was also organised at the venue, making the occasion a fitting observance of World Blood Donor Day.
Throughout the day, Gabriel engaged with attendees, providing information on organ donation, addressing common misconceptions, and explaining the importance of organ donation pledges. The event attracted approximately 600 participants, providing an excellent platform to raise awareness of the life-saving impact of organ donation.
As a result of these interactions, 10 individuals pledged to donate their organs, demonstrating their commitment to giving the gift of life. Additionally, around 200 organ donation Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) flyers were distributed to help educate the public and encourage informed discussions within families and communities.
The participation of the Organ Donation Information Desk at this prestigious event contributed significantly to raising awareness about organ donation and inspiring members of the community to consider becoming organ donors.
