Organ Donation Awareness with the couple who undertook pan India road trip, at IGMC Hospital, Nagpur

  • On 11th January 2022, MOHAN Foundation, in association with Transplants – Help the Poor Foundation conducted organ donation awareness session at surgical complex -ICU Recovery of IGMC, Nagpur.

    Ms. Prarthana organized the event and the resident doctors and nursing staff participated in this event. Dr. Vaishali Shelgaokar (HOD of Anesthetic department) and Ms.Prarthana welcomed the guests, ‘The Cause Travelers’ - the couple Mr. and Mrs. Bhal Shekar Chilana who have set out on an all-India roadtrip raising awareness about organ donation. They spoke a few words about organ donation.

    Topics discussed by Ms. Prarthana were as follows:

    • Concepts of organ donation.
    • Why and when is transplantation required?
    • Various organs and tissues that can be donated?
    • Types of death
    • Difference between brain death and coma.
    • Transplantation of Human Organs Act.
    • Myths and misconceptions related to organ donation.
    • Information about the toll-free organ donation helpline (1800 103 7100) was shared.

     

    Mr. Chilana and his wife shared their previous experience on how they have created awareness  on organ donation through their road trips, which has made people to take pledge for donating their organs.53 participants participated in the session.

     

    The cause traveler’s team thanked MOHAN Foundation and team of IGMC Hospital for supporting and organizing this event for them.
