Organ Donation Awareness for Students of Patrician College, Chennai

  • On 9th August 2021, at 11 am  MOHAN Foundation conducted an  virtual awareness session for Social Work students of Patrician College of Arts and Science, Chennai. The theme of the program was “Opportunities for Action - Organ Donation” and it was a part of the Organ Donation Day celebrations of MOHAN Foundation. The session was attended by 87 students and staff of the department.

    The event started with a prayer led by Dr. Raichel Diana and was followed by a welcome address by Dr Leanne Maria. Dr Hemal Kanvinde, Quality Assurance Officer of MOHAN Foundation spoke on concepts of organ donation and transplantation.  She began by asking the students to list the various items they had donated so far and received responses like money, time and blood. 

    She then introduced the topic with the need for donation, followed by who can become organ and tissue donors. She touched upon the Transplant Law and conditions under which donation cannot happen. She elaborated on how to register as organ donors and how to motivate others. She also gave an example of a young girl, who had got the gift of life through donation, using her second chance to counsel other patients to go for transplantation. 

    Dr. Kanvinde also explained the activities of MOHAN Foundation and elaborated on the opportunities for students to work in this field as Interns and Ambassadors of Organ Donation. A film explaining brain death was played for the students. 

    The students were next briefed on job opportunities as Transplant Coordinators and the two trainings that are run by MOHAN Foundation - the Diploma Course and the Certificate Course. Dr. Kanvinde explained the curriculum, fees structure, examination pattern and the benefits and eligibility of the courses. 

    The event ended with a vote of thanks  by Dr. Raichel  Diana. MOHAN Foundation thanks the college for their interest in spreading awareness about organ donation.
