Organ Donation Awareness for Residents of HSR Layout, Bengaluru

  • Mrs. Ranjini Shankar received a call from Mr. Pradeep Mendonsa to conduct an awareness session in the HSR Layout for the public during the Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations. Mr. Mendonsa had earlier conducted a couple of sessions and also attended an awareness session himself.

    At his request Mrs. Ranjini, Project Manager of MOHAN Foundation conducted an interactive session and set up an all-day help desk on 25th December 2021 at HSR Layout. Around 65 residents, including children attended the session, and even more visited the help desk.

    Mrs. Ranjini began the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation, its mission and vision; the concept of organ and tissue donation; types of death: cardiac death and brain death; brain death declaration; and procedures of deceased and living organ donation. She then elaborated on the procedure of eye, skin, and bone donation; briefly explained the role of Jeevasarthakathe; touched upon the transplant law and the importance of a donor card. Myths and facts, and barriers to organ donation were highlighted as well.

    Mr. Mendonsa, who was impressed by the work of MOHAN Foundation, expressed his wish to conduct more events in with collaboration with the Foundation.

    Around 10 people signed up as organ donors during the event. MOHAN Foundation is thankful to Mr. Pradeep Mendonsa for the opportunity.
