Organ Donation Awareness for Nursing Students at Salem

  • On 27th June 2019, Mrs Pramila Devi, Principal of Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Nursing College invited MOHAN Foundation to deliver an awareness talk about organ donation for the nursing students of the institute. Around 165 nursing students participated in the programme.

    Mr. Dileep Kumar S, a Transplant Coordinator from the Foundation began by introducing himself to the students and other staff who were present. Mr. Dileep then administered a small quiz to test the knowledge of the students about organ donation and transplantation, keeping it interactive. He then began his presentation and covered the following points:

     

    • What is organ donation
    • Organs and their functions
    • What is organ transplantation
    • Transplantation of Human Organs Act
    • What are the organs that can be donated
    • Organ donation as a life giving cause
    • Difference between natural death and brain death
    • Functions of the brain stem
    • Brain death certification 
    • How to pledge to be an organ donor
    • Myths on organ donation
    • How to register when in need of an organ
    • How can many lives be saved through organ donation

     

    After the program students asked a few questions and shared their thoughts with Mr Dileep. After the question-answer session, Mrs. Pramila Devi thanked Mr. Dileep Kumar for delivering the awareness talk for the students of the college.
