Organ Donation Awareness at Sri Krishna College of Nursing, Salem

  • On 21st June 2019, MOHAN Foundation was invited by the Principal of Sri Krishna College of Nursing in Pannapatti, Omalur taluk of Salem district to deliver an awareness talk on organ donation for the nursing students. Around 135 nursing students participated in the programme and Mr. Dileep Kumar S, Transplant Coordinator, represented the Foundation at the event.

     

    After the Principal introduced Mr. Dileep Kumar to the students and other staff, he attempted to understand the audience’s knowledge about organ donation and transplantation by having a short interactive session. His presentation that followed covered the below points:

     

    • What is organ donation
    • Organs and their functions
    • Organ failure and it causes
    • Transplantation of Human Organs Act
    • What are the organs that can be donated
    • Organ donation as a life giving cause
    • Difference between natural death and brain death
    • Functions of brain stem
    • Brain death certification 
    • What, when and how of organ donation
    • How to pledge as a donor
    • Myths on organ donation
    • How to register when in need of an organ
    • How can many lives be saved through organ donation

     

    After the session the audience asked a few questions and shared their thoughts with Mr Dileep. After the question-answer session, the Principal of the college thanked Mr. Dileep Kumar for delivering the awareness talk for the students of the college.
