Organ Donation Awareness at VIT, Chennai

  • VIT Chennai is one of the leading engineering colleges in India. MOHAN Foundation was given an opportunity to create awareness on Organ Donation on February 25, 2023.  Members of its Rotaract club organized the session and around 250 students from different courses gathered in the Seminar Hall to attend the seminar.

    Mrs. Sujatha Suriyamoorthi (Associate Director- Courses), and Ms. Arshiya Fathima. H (Helpline counsellor) were the resource persons for the sessions. They were assisted by interns Ms. Vijyalakshmi and Ms. Prathyusha of MMM College of Allied Health Sciences.

    Interns arranged an information desk with green ribbons and information brochures were distributed to all students.

    The session started with a short Inaugural Ceremony. Mrs. Sujatha Suriyamoorthi began the session with a quiz on myths; they were interesting answers from students. This was followed with a talk on the concepts of Organ Donation and Transplantation which included who, what, when and how donation can happen. She explained brain death and about the Transplantation Act. In between the session Ms. Sujatha played a brain stem death video and a recipient testimonial video and explained the training courses, ambassador program. It was an interactive session.

    Ms. Arshiya Fathima conducted the quiz. She was very interactive with students and did Q & A sessions. Then she talked about Organ Donation Helpline 1800 103 7100.

    MOHAN Foundation wholeheartedly thanks the Rotaract Club of VIT Chennai, Rtr Saravanan (President), Rtr. Samvrith (Secretary), Rtr. Sruthi Jain (Project Chair), Dr. Vijayalakshmi V (Faculty Coordinator) and other faculty for arranging this awareness program.
