Organ Donation Awareness at St. Theresa of Child Jesus School of Nursing

  • An awareness programme organ donation was conducted at St. Theresa of Child Jesus School Of Nursing on 25th March 2021. The program started at 2 pm and 55 nursing students as well as 5 tutors joined the programme.  Interns Mr. Naveen Antony and Mr. Umarnath – students of MMMCHS, Organ Donation Ambassadors Dr. Kavitha and Dr. Vinodraja of Tagore Medical College and Dr. Hemal Kanvinde – Quality Assurance Officer, MOHAN Foundation conducted the session.

    A motivational video on organ donation was played at the start of the session. Dr Hemal gave a talk on the concepts of organ donation with the help of a presentation, where she explained organ donation, brain death, coma, conditions for donation as well as contraindications for organ donation. Advancements like hand transplants and uterus  transplants were also highlighted. Law on donation and myths about donation were explained. A video explaining brain death was also played.

    Dr. Kavitha and Dr. Vinoth Raja shared their experiences about organ donation and how films are wrongly depicting organ donation and creating fear in people’s minds. They also answered questions from the audience.

    Mr. Naveen and Mr. Umarnath  conducted an interesting quiz based on  the popular “Connexions” format. Totally 22 students and staff members registered themselves as organ donors.
