On November 13, 2025, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, Organ Donation Ambassador with the MOHAN Foundation, delivered an informative session on organ donation to the teaching staff at Auxilium Primary School, Aldona, Goa.
He opened the discussion by asking, “If someone passes away at home, is organ donation still feasible?” Most participants believed it was possible if the individual reached the hospital within a certain timeframe. Mr. Pereira then explained that the session would address key aspects of organ donation, including the definition of organ and tissue donation, the categories of death, organs and tissues that can be donated, transplant hospitals in Goa, organs and tissues currently transplanted within the state, and the latest statistics on individuals registered on the waiting list.
These topics were covered in detail through a PowerPoint presentation and were further supported by a video explaining the concept of brain death. By the end of the session, all eight educators expressed their willingness to become organ donors. Mr. Pereira distributed donor cards and encouraged them to communicate their decision to their families, emphasizing that family consent is required for organ donation, even if an individual holds a donor card.
He also expressed his gratitude to Sr. Lavita Sequeira, Headmistress, for providing the opportunity to interact with the teachers. Mr. Pereira shared his intention to circulate the presentation video, including an animated short film created by Shweta Gupta and the brain death explainer, via the school’s WhatsApp group so that parents can also access these resources and develop a deeper understanding of organ donation.
